Role Summary

The Senior Manager, Innovative Health Discovery and Communications serves as the key integrator between discovery and strategic communications within Johnson & Johnson’s Innovative Health organization. The role identifies and prioritizes business needs in clinical development, scouts internal and external innovative solutions, and translates complex concepts into compelling narratives within an overarching communications strategy to position IH as the clinical trial innovation hub. It drives cross-functional collaboration, implements structured intake processes, and fosters a culture of innovation to accelerate clinical trial efficiency and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Business Needs Assessment: Partner with stakeholders to uncover challenges, pain points, and opportunities across the clinical portfolio; apply interviews, surveys, data analysis, and workshops to extract actionable insights; establish mechanisms for selecting the right approach to surface meaningful insights.
  • Prioritization and Decision Support: Develop frameworks to rank business needs by impact, urgency, and strategic alignment; facilitate stakeholder workshops to validate priorities; support informed decisions considering feasibility, resources, and ROI.
  • Capability Building: Create and maintain processes, tools, and methodologies for intake, prioritization, competitive intelligence and scouting; maintain awareness of the clinical portfolio to anticipate future needs.
  • Internal Solution Scanning: Assess existing processes, systems, and tools for improvement opportunities; recommend enhancements or alternatives based on business needs.
  • External Market Research & Scouting: Track industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes; explore scouting tactics to identify innovative solutions and partners; build and maintain a database of internal and external solutions; develop professional networks to enhance scouting performance.
  • Communications: IH/IHEA Narrative Development; create and maintain IH’s strategic narrative and positioning as the clinical trial innovation hub; develop integrated story across functions with consistent messaging; translate complex innovation concepts into accessible stories; lead IH brand development and positioning strategy; ensure IH is represented in external communications including conferences, speaking opportunities, publications, and social media.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with innovation leads, solution leads, and business teams to ensure alignment; promote transparency and shared understanding of business needs; define KPIs for intake and scouting effectiveness; monitor and analyze performance data and provide regular reports to senior leadership on progress and impact.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in business, technology, or life sciences required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of total business experience; minimum of 5 years in global clinical research within a CRO, pharmaceutical, or sponsor environment.
  • Understanding of the clinical trial process, technologies, and relevant compliance, regulatory, and legal considerations.
  • Experience in assessing stakeholder needs, competitive intelligence, solution scouting, and technology assessments preferred.
  • Experience building strong vendor relationships preferred.
  • Familiarity with technologies, industries, and market trends related to clinical trial operations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; strong analytical abilities.
  • Ability to partner with and influence decision-making without formal authority at global and local levels; ability to think strategically and align solutions with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functions and drive results in a complex, fast-paced environment.
