Role Summary

The Senior Manager, Global Indirect Strategic Sourcing leads and optimizes external spend across key G&A and Commercial category families. The role owns select subcategories within IT, Travel, Professional Services, Commercial, and External Workforce, representing a portion of an ongoing global spend of roughly $500M. It requires a dynamic, hands-on sourcing leader with strong communication and influencing skills who can elevate sourcing value and partner effectively across G&A and Commercial functions. This role is hybrid and based in Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive global category strategies for specific Indirect categories with business objectives, risk mitigation, and total cost of ownership principles.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders company-wide to anticipate business needs and proactively shape sourcing strategies.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing initiatives, including RFx development, bid evaluations, negotiations, and contract execution.
  • Identify, qualify, and manage strategic supplier relationships to ensure performance, innovation, compliance, and value delivery.
  • Deliver year-over-year cost savings, cost avoidance, and value improvements through commercial negotiations, process efficiencies, and demand management.
  • Continuously analyze market trends and spend data to identify opportunities for value generation and risk mitigation.
  • Facilitate supplier business reviews with stakeholders to align performance metrics, KPIs, and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Champion continuous improvement and procurement excellence within the category scope.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategy and action plans to support Alnylam’s Supplier Diversity and Sustainability initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with business partners including Financial Planning and Analysis, Finance Operations, Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, and other peers within the GSS organization.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: Technical discipline for Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: Advanced degree (MBA/MS) or professional certifications (CPSM, CFM, MCR, QPCR)
  • Required: 6+ years of strategic sourcing or procurement experience, ideally within biotech or pharmaceutical industries
  • Required: Expertise in indirect category strategic sourcing
  • Required: Demonstrated ability to develop and execute category strategies using TCO, market intelligence, and spend analytics
  • Required: Track record of delivering measurable cost savings, operational efficiencies, and supplier performance improvements
  • Required: Strong proficiency in sourcing and ERP tools (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Workday), with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Required: Skilled in leading RFx events, commercial negotiations, and contract lifecycle management
  • Required: Proven ability to manage global suppliers through KPIs, SLAs, audits, and business reviews
  • Required: Collaborative and business-oriented mindset; effective at influencing cross-functional stakeholders
  • Required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to distill complex topics for senior audiences
