Senior Manager, Global Strategic Sourcing
Overview
The Senior Manager of Technical Operations and Quality (TOQ) Strategic Sourcing has responsibility for managing and optimizing external spending categories supporting the TOQ organization within the company. This role has responsibility for global categories including Facilities Management and Operations, Real Estate, and Capital Projects with an estimated annual spend of approximately $150M and growing. This role requires a dynamic, transformational, hands-on leader with exceptional communications and influencing skills to elevate the level of sourcing value delivered to the organization. This role requires combining a high level of competency and experience in strategic sourcing with a solid understanding of facility operations and real estate.
This position is hybrid and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive global category strategies for Facilities Management and Operations, Real Estate, and Capital Projects aligned with business objectives, risk mitigation, and total cost of ownership principles.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (Global Facilities, Engineering, and Real Estate) to anticipate business needs and proactively shape sourcing strategies.
- Lead end-to-end sourcing initiatives, including RFx development, bid evaluations, negotiations, and contract execution.
- Identify, qualify, and manage strategic supplier relationships to ensure performance, innovation, compliance, and value delivery.
- Deliver year-over-year cost savings, cost avoidance, and value improvements through commercial negotiations, process efficiencies, and demand management.
- Continuously analyze market trends and spend data to identify opportunities for value generation and risk mitigation.
- Serve as the primary procurement partner for facilities, engineering, and real estate, influencing and advising on procurement best practices and strategic sourcing decisions.
- Facilitate supplier business reviews with stakeholders to align performance metrics, KPIs, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Champion continuous improvement and procurement excellence within the category scope.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategy and action plans to support Alnylamโs Supplier Diversity and Sustainability initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with business partners including Financial Planning and Analysis, Finance Operations, Legal, Compliance, Human Resources, and other peers within the GSS organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelorโs degree required, in a technical discipline desired (Facilities Management, Real Estate, Business, Engineering).
- Advanced degree (MBA/MS) or professional certifications (CPSM, CFM, MCR, QPCR) desired.
- 6+ years of strategic sourcing or procurement experience, ideally within biotech or pharmaceutical industries.
- Expertise in Facilities Management and Operations, Real Estate, and Capital Projects strategic sourcing.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute category strategies using TCO, market intelligence, and spend analytics.
- Track record of delivering measurable cost savings, operational efficiencies, and supplier performance improvements.
- Strong proficiency in sourcing and ERP tools (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Workday), with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Familiarity with CAFM/IWMS platforms (e.g., Planon, Archibus, TRIRIGA) is a plus.
- Skilled in leading RFx events, commercial negotiations, and contract lifecycle management.
- Proven ability to manage global suppliers through KPIs, SLAs, audits, and business reviews.
- Collaborative and business-oriented mindset; effective at influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to distill complex topics for senior audiences.
