Role Summary

Senior Manager, Accounts Payable leads all accounts payable operations (domestic and international) within the Finance organization at Avidity Biosciences, reporting to the Associate Director of Accounting. Manages a team of one AP Manager and three AP Specialists, drives process improvements, ensures SOX and regulatory compliance, and implements scalable systems and policies to support global growth. Location: Hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing AP team (1 Manager, 3 Specialists), fostering professional growth and accountability.
  • Define and execute the long-term AP strategy, ensuring scalability for global operations.
  • Partner with Finance leadership to align AP processes with corporate goals and compliance requirements.
  • Build strong partnerships with Procurement, Legal, IT, and other teams to support vendor onboarding, contract compliance, and system integrations.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on AP processes and policies.
  • Oversee all aspects of full-cycle accounts payable, including domestic and international vendor payments, employee expense reimbursements, and credit card programs.
  • Manage Concur expense management system, ensuring compliance, training, and optimal configuration for global usage.
  • Implement best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in AP processes.
  • Lead the month-end close process for AP, including accruals, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to SOX, internal policies, and applicable regulations across all AP activities.
  • Partner with internal audit and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support.
  • Ensure compliance with Sunshine Act reporting requirements, including data collection, validation, and timely submission.
  • Serve as the company’s subject matter expert on taxes, including sales/use tax on purchased items and tax reporting obligations for both domestic and foreign vendors.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive AP experience, including 4+ years in a leadership role managing a team, process, program or function in a highly regulated setting.
  • Proven experience with Concur expense reporting and international AP processes.
  • Intermediate knowledge of taxes, including sales/use tax, taxability of purchased items, and reporting requirements for domestic and foreign vendors.
  • Experience with Sunshine Act reporting, preferably in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory, SOX compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through change and process optimization.
  • Advanced Excel/MS Office skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
