Senior Machine Learning Scientist, Climate & Hydrology

Role: Senior Machine Learning Scientist specializing in climate and hydrology, focusing on developing and leading hydrology-aware climate modeling within Flagship's environmental platform. Responsibilities: steer scientific research and ML development at the intersection of hydrology, climate science, and AI; define research priorities, model evaluation strategies, and contribute to next-generation environmental prediction systems; work with large climate datasets, build reproducible workflows, and translate scientific insights into scalable models. Requirements: PhD in Earth science, climate science, hydrology, AI, or related field; 5+ years postdoctoral or industry experience in climate ML, weather modeling, or Earth system modeling; strong publication record; expertise with large climate datasets, Python, PyTorch, and cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS); knowledge of scientific ML, data assimilation, and hybrid physics-ML approaches. Preferred: experience leading cross-disciplinary efforts, mentoring, and working across research and engineering teams. High-Value: focus on climate, weather, and hydrology modeling; development of ML-based prediction systems; work in advanced computational environments; based in Cambridge, MA or Boulder, CO with some travel.
