The Position

Genentech seeks to hire a Senior Legal Administrative Operations Manager with a blend of people management and project management skills. This individual will play a pivotal role in aligning administrative support services with the evolving needs of our Legal Department, while also driving individual project work to enhance operational efficiencies. The role will be a 75-25 split between primarily team management and project management responsibilities, including driving process improvements and operational efficiencies. This role reports into the Legal Operations Team of Genentech, a member of the Roche group.

This position is based onsite at the South San Francisco, California campus of Genentech and is not suitable for a fully remote working arrangement. Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Lead and manage a team of administrative professionals supporting various practice groups within Legal.
  • Provide coaching, performance management, career development, and succession planning for direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and cohesive environment among the administrative team, fostering knowledge-sharing and best practices.
  • Develop and execute training programs to enhance administrative skill sets, particularly in technology, automation, and legal operations processes.
  • Partner with legal leadership to align administrative services with department goals and evolving business needs.
  • Oversee resource allocation to ensure equitable distribution of work and provide backup support when necessary.
  • Monitor and refine Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to maintain high-quality administrative support across the department.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce redundancy, and enhance workflow across legal administrative functions.
  • Standardize administrative workflows and best practices across legal teams.
  • Actively analyze administrative performance metrics and recommend operational enhancements.
  • Lead change management efforts related to administrative operations, ensuring smooth transitions in processes and structures.

Other Responsibilities

  • Take on individual project work, including Project Manager responsibilities, to drive process improvements and enhance operational efficiencies within the Legal Department.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to modernize and streamline administrative processes within the department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree (Ideally in a scientific, business, or legal discipline).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in an administrative management role, preferably in a corporate legal or professional services environment.
  • 5+ years of proven ability to lead project teams.
  • Experience managing teams of administrative professionals with a focus on performance development and training.
  • Background in legal operations, process improvement, or project management is a plus.
  • Leadership & People Management: Ability to motivate, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Process Optimization: Experience identifying inefficiencies and implementing workflow improvements.
  • Project Management: Ability to lead individual projects, manage deadlines, and deliver process improvements.
  • Technology & Automation: Comfort with administrative technology, legal operations tools, and workflow automation.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Change Management: Ability to guide teams through organizational change and process transitions.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $114,700 and $213,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
