Role Summary
The Senior Director, Targets and Mechanisms Solutions will lead strategic direction, product management, and AI-driven innovation for Pfizer’s Targets and Mechanisms platforms and systems. You will oversee a global team delivering scalable, sustainable, and science-centric solutions that power research execution across Pfizer and external partners, driving strategic planning for platforms and systems and integrating advanced technologies to enhance efficiency and decision-making. The role requires experience at the intersection of research and digital technologies, with a focus on enterprise-level systems, and a commitment to growing others and innovating in a dynamic healthcare landscape.
Responsibilities
- Enablement: deliver technical services including ecosystem architecture, quality, analytics, and data management to design, build, and deliver innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions to identify biological targets for therapeutic modulation. Enable activities across Pfizer’s Research Units and support target identification, qualification, selection, and translation from preclinical to early clinical decisions.
- Vision and Strategy: define and own the vision and strategy for digital Targets and Mechanisms Solutions, including AI innovation and roadmaps; architect modular, interoperable digital ecosystems; anticipate technology trends and prioritize AI investments; collaborate to pilot and scale innovations; identify external solutions and best practices.
- Strategic Leadership: establish and mature a strategic product and platform operating model; govern emerging technologies to align with business objectives and regulatory requirements; design/vendor frameworks for partnerships; launch and scale AI programs to embed AI into core workflows and drive continuous improvement.
- Program Delivery Leadership: oversee global program delivery, manage business cases and KPIs, and ensure financial management for complex delivery activities; manage enterprise SaaS and custom software development; oversee portfolio financials; ensure GxP solutions are audit- and inspection-ready.
- Team Leadership: lead with a culture of continuous improvement and innovation; mentor and coach team members; foster learning and talent growth; solve highly complex problems and guide decisions across business units.
- Strategic Relationships: build partnerships with research leaders and senior stakeholders; align Digital & Technology strategy with evolving research needs; collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver impactful research solutions; accelerate delivery through collaboration between research and innovation teams.
Qualifications
- Required: Education—Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Required: 12+ years of life sciences experience or equivalent experience leading platforms and large-scale systems; 10+ years in a leadership role with increasing scope; proven ability to create and implement high-impact strategic plans in a large, matrixed global organization; experience delivering technology solutions in a pharmaceutical or regulated environment with enterprise software in 24x7 global environments; strong leadership and talent development capabilities; data-centric technology leadership with experience managing large-scale scientific, clinical, and operational data; proven product management leadership with strategy, execution, and cross-functional alignment; ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and influence across the organization.
- Preferred: Master of Science in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or Technology Management.
- Preferred: 15+ years of experience with advanced degree; experience building and scaling product management discipline; experience specifically in pharmaceutical clinical development; coding or hands-on software engineering; experience with omics analysis.
- Certifications/Training: PMP Certification and Agile Certification.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Master of Science degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering or Technology Management (preferred).
Additional Requirements
- Limited travel within the region or to other regions; Digital is a 7x24x365 endeavor; participation may be needed outside normal hours.
