Role Summary

Senior Director, Strategy & Operations, HIV Prevention will play a critical leadership role within the HIV Prevention leadership team, helping to develop and refine processes that drive performance of the current PrEP portfolio, lead key projects and initiatives, and accelerate business outcomes. This role is based in Foster City, CA and requires on-site presence. You will partner with the HIV Prevention leadership team and cross-functional colleagues to oversee operational activities, drive strategic projects, and ensure alignment with the business strategy. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of strategic and operational work in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry, with the ability to manage complex projects, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and communicate effectively with senior leaders. A proactive, self-starting approach is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the creation of the HIV Prevention business unit, including governance structures, leadership committees and meetings (LT, XLT, VPC, etc.), day-to-day BU processes, communications, and ways of working.
  • Serve as the primary contact for strategic requests from leadership; coordinate cross-functional teams to develop consolidated, aligned responses with high quality. Develop and maintain detailed work plans for key initiatives, including tasks, milestones, assignments, schedules, resources, budgets, and status reporting.
  • Drive business results through operational rigor, collaboration, and cross-functional/leadership alignment.
  • Define and implement business processes, roles, and responsibilities across the HIV Prevention BU; identify performance or efficiency improvements and manage initiatives aligned with HIV Prevention and US Commercial goals.
  • Oversee and manage HIV Prevention leadership team meetings, including curating topical discussions for U.S. leadership meetings and driving actions and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with U.S. Leadership, HIV Prevention Leadership, Public Affairs, HR, and Finance on internal and external communications strategy; prepare content for impactful presentations (leadership meetings, QBRs, monthly reviews, earnings prep, etc.).
  • Lead the preparation of communications for key events and updates, including leadership meetings, project/initiative presentations, customer meetings, and other forums.
  • Develop KPIs and track progress.
  • Coordinate internal/external executive appearances and events across functions, prioritizing impact and strategic goals, and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and best practices to ensure programs, processes, and initiatives are meaningful and aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Support future pipeline and portfolio questions through partnerships with Global, Clinical, and Medical teams to ensure connectivity and alignment of overall strategy.
  • Partner with Global teams to implement ideas shared by the international L4P Team competition.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree and fourteen years’ experience
  • Required: Master's Degree and twelve years’ experience
  • Required: PhD and twelve years’ experience
  • Preferred: Highly resourceful and strategic thinker with strong emotional intelligence, operational rigor, and project management capabilities
  • Preferred: Demonstrated consistent cross-functional collaborator and business partner, directly contributing to teams to achieve overall objectives
  • Preferred: Strong communication skills across functions and leadership teams; comfort in business and technical discussions. Able to voice opinion diplomatically and influence without direct authority
  • Preferred: Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative high-growth environment
  • Preferred: Experience driving large initiatives from framing the problem, conducting research/analysis to building the business and operational plans through to driving execution to success
  • Preferred: Depth of understanding of the function’s financials; in partnership with finance partners, identifying initiatives to support commercial opportunities for growth

  • Preferred: Willingness to travel as needed (up to 30%)

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree with fourteen years’ experience; or Master’s Degree with twelve years; or PhD with twelve years.

Skills

  • Strong strategic thinking; ability to develop and articulate complex strategic issues and ideas (e.g., research strategy, corporate strategy).
  • Proactive, self-starter; exceptionally organized and able to prioritize to ensure delivery within timelines.
  • Experience communicating a story and developing executive-level slide sets (PowerPoint).
  • Agility: capable of managing multiple projects with overlapping timelines and meeting deadlines; advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal communication; experience in executive communications under tight timelines.
  • Long-Term Strategic Planning: experienced designer of long-term strategic planning.
  • Research/Innovation Planning or Corporate Strategy Development: includes developing materials (models, slides) for executive-level discussions; prior experience participating in or leading strategic planning activities.
  • Industry knowledge: biotech/biopharma industry knowledge; familiarity with key players and drivers; understanding of emerging technologies and strategic themes (digital health, M&A trends, pricing environment, regional nuances, commercial models).
