Responsibilities:
- Lead R&D portfolio reviews and the annual workplan process to align with corporate objectives and therapeutic area strategies.
- Drive portfolio balancing across modalities, therapeutic areas, development stages, and risk profiles.
- Maximize portfolio value using data-driven prioritization, scenario analysis, and trade-off recommendations.
- Provide investment decision support through enterprise portfolio reviews, investment committees, and governance forums.
- Deliver objective insights on portfolio performance, risk, probability of success, timelines, and value.
- Support go/no-go, acceleration, termination, and partnering decisions at key milestones.
- Support long-range R&D planning (capital allocation, headcount planning, external spend) and integrate financial models (NPV, rNPV, probability-adjusted value).
- Lead scenario modeling for pipeline changes, external opportunities, and strategic shifts; partner with Finance for alignment.
- Establish portfolio analytics, dashboards, and performance metrics; translate complex data for executive insights.
- Drive adoption of digital tools and data platforms to improve portfolio visibility and predictability.
- Partner with Pre-Clinical Development, Clinical Development, Regulatory, CMC, Commercial, and BD; evaluate external opportunities (licensing, M&A, collaborations) and integrate internal/external assets.
- Build and lead a high-performing Strategic Portfolio Management team; develop standards/capabilities and foster transparency and evidence-based decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs required; PhD/MD/PharmD/MSc/MBA strongly preferred.
- 15+ yearsβ pharmaceutical/biotech R&D experience including senior program/portfolio leadership.
- PMP/PgMP or equivalent preferred.
- Proven strategic portfolio management, R&D strategy, or investment governance leadership.
- Deep understanding of drug development lifecycle and R&D economics.
- Strong financial acumen; ability to synthesize scientific/clinical/commercial inputs into recommendations.
- Experience supporting senior executive decision-making in a highly matrixed environment.
- Excellent communication (board-level materials/presentations) with strong influencing skills.
- Ability to manage complexity, uncertainty, and long timelines; diplomacy and negotiation/persuasive skills.
Benefits/Compensation:
- Salary range: $151,000.00 - $314,000.00 USD (exact compensation varies by skills, experience, and location).
