Brief Description
- Lead scientific team members assigned to oncology assets from discovery through regulatory approval.
- Manage the oncology pharmacology team and serve as lead on one or more programs.
- Establish efficacy in relevant disease models, demonstrate differentiation vs. comparators, determine PK/PD/efficacy relationships, characterize mechanisms of action, and identify predictive disease models, indications, and biomarkers.
- Drive preclinical discovery and design/execute clinically relevant studies supporting Jazz products and drug candidates.
- Design/execute outsourced and in-house/academic-collaborator experiments; review and contribute to clinical protocols; review/author technical reports.
- Coauthor nonclinical regulatory document sections from IND to NDA/BLA submissions; present research internally/externally.
- Participate in cross-functional matrix teams (e.g., Clinical Development, Bioanalytical, Toxicology, Clinical Pharmacology, Biomarkers/Regulatory Affairs, Project Management).
Essential Functions
- Design/execute studies for efficacy, tolerability, mechanism of action, and biomarker strategies across multiple modalities.
- Critically evaluate biochemical/cellular assays; present results to nonclinical/governance teams.
- Collaborate with CROs (protocols, timelines, budgets) and academic labs.
- Lead programs/projects; mentor junior scientists.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Oncology drug development expertise (hit-to-lead through IND enabling), strong preclinical oncology and immuno-oncology experience.
- Experience across small molecules, biologics, ADCs, bi-specifics, T cell engagers, cell/gene therapies, RNA therapeutics.
- Cross-functional understanding of nonclinical pharmacology, toxicology, DMPK, and clinical pharmacology for dose selection and translational strategy.
- People management; analytical skills (e.g., GraphPad Prism); strong program/CRO oversight.
- Experience authoring IND/NDA-BLA components, briefing packages, DSURs, IBs, fast track documents.
Required Education
- Ph.D. in biology/biochemistry/immunology/pharmacology or related field; substantial oncology and immuno-oncology experience.
