Responsibilities:
- Manage and advise assigned patent portfolios: strategy, prosecution/continuations, optimization; support filing/prosecution/maintenance in the US and internationally with outside counsel.
- Review office actions and provide input on claim strategy, filings, portfolio reports, and prosecution recommendations; run portfolio reviews for gaps, deadlines, and competitive risks.
- Support IP in agreements and transactions (confidentiality, research, services, licenses, collaborations, manufacturing/supply, strategic contracts); lead IP due diligence and prepare IP risk assessments/summaries.
- Counsel R&D on protectable innovations; review external disclosures; lead invention identification, disclosure evaluation, and patent-filing strategy; support internal IP education.
- Develop and execute patent term extension and regulatory exclusivity strategies (Orange Book/Purple Book, pediatric/orphan drug exclusivity, clinical trial postings, IND/NDA/BLA-related matters) and monitor exclusivity issues.
- Support IP litigation and Hatch-Waxman/Paragraph IV disputes (analysis, file history, technical/document coordination, strategy support).
- Manage outside IP counsel; track budgets/invoices; improve IP processes and maintain privilege-sensitive records.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- J.D. with active US state bar membership.
- USPTO registration required/strongly preferred.
- BS in a relevant life science (chemistry/biology/biochemistry/pharmacology/pharmaceutical sciences or similar); advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 10+ years relevant biotech/pharma/life-sciences IP experience with strong portfolio management and global prosecution; agreement-drafting/negotiation support; R&D invention capture counseling.
- Preferred: experience with regulatory exclusivity/Orange-Purple Book/IND-NDA-BLA matters; IP litigation/Hatch-Waxman/Paragraph IV; strong global IP law knowledge.
