Position Summary
- Senior Director, Intellectual Property responsible for independently developing and implementing strategies to protect Crineticsโ intellectual property, primarily its patent assets.
- Manage patent prosecution in-house and with outside counsel.
- Serve as an IP advisor to business partners; communicate complex legal advice to colleagues across scientific disciplines.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Identify commercially valuable IP in collaboration with the IP team, CMC, Discovery, and Clinical teams.
- Manage prosecution of high-quality patent applications aligned with the pipeline.
- Conduct and manage freedom-to-operate (FTO) and patentability searches/analyses; counsel business partners on associated risks.
- Manage Orange Book listings and PTE application process.
- Contribute to strategic planning.
- Provide coaching/mentoring and cross-functional IP education.
- Support business development and competitive intelligence activities.
- Review and assist in negotiating IP provisions of various agreements.
- Review publications and advise on IP aspects.
- Contribute to development of processes and best practices for company IP management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed US attorney with USPTO registration number and 13+ yearsโ experience supporting pharmaceutical/biotechnology/life science technologies by drafting, prosecuting, and managing global patent portfolios.
- 5+ years as an attorney at a law firm; 3+ years as in-house IP counsel or patent counsel with demonstrated cross-functional responsibilities.
- 10+ years in a supervisory/leadership role.
- Graduate degree in chemistry (preferably organic chemistry).
- Strong experience with foreign and US patent prosecution.
- Familiarity with IP management systems (e.g., docketing and chemical patent search software).
- Ability to independently handle multiple complex legal matters and complete projects on time.
- Strong organizational/planning skills; keen attention to detail.
- Exceptional written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- High degree of professionalism and ethical standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research experience in a pharmaceutical company or academic chemistry lab.
- Experience reviewing agreements with IP-related terms.
