Role Summary
The Sr. Director, Healthcare Improvement Lead acts as the strategic partner to Lilly Business Units to develop and deliver effective, impactful, cost-effective Healthcare Improvement initiatives globally. The role includes strategic planning and coordination for centralized execution of US initiatives and global initiatives involving more than one country, and membership in the HCI Hub/Implementation Science Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the BU to develop brand strategic priorities and coordinate central medical affairs capabilities to integrate the HCI strategy into the overall plan
- Identify root causes of Clinical Care Gaps related to system-level barriers and drive data-driven, patient-focused HCI solutions
- Collaborate with the Innovation Readiness team to identify HCIs early (phase 2) and throughout the lifecycle
- Determine when HCIs vs. other solutions are most appropriate and impactful
- Design scalable and sustainable HCI initiatives with robust plans for broad dissemination of findings
- Shape communications on progress toward goals across organizational levels and forums
- Identify environmental trends and leverage HCIs accordingly
- Ensure HCI measurements are embedded in the ecosystem with assessments including system and patient outcomes
- Promote sharing and implementation of best practices with colleagues in GMAO and beyond
- Manage budgets precisely and understand internal and external funding regulations
Organizational And External Influence
- Foster cross-functional partnerships to meet healthcare system needs through HCIs
- Develop innovative ideas for planning and executing HCIs, including QI Collaboratives
- Engage with professional societies and external organizations to inform Lilly’s HCI strategies
- Represent Lilly professionally when engaging with health systems and government on HCIs
- Communicate with cross-functional leadership to highlight the value of HCIs and alignment with Accelerate Reach & Scale
- Maximize budget effectiveness through scalable approaches
- Provide HCI coaching and training for affiliates and enterprise-wide teams
- Prepare for and participate in forums with HCI Steering Committee and Ambassadors
- Engage in external offerings related to HCI and build new relationships for Lilly
Operational Excellence / HCI Hub
- Serve as an active member of the HCI Hub
- Support compliance framework maintenance with Ethics & Compliance; ensure global HCI quality and compliance
- Contribute to HCI guidance creation, playbooks, processes, communication, engagement, and measurement/reporting
- Provide central support and consultation for local OUS HCIs while supporting local execution
- Support HCI technology and ecosystem building

Minimum Qualification Requirements
- 5+ years experience working with external stakeholders/customers
- 5+ years in roles with direct work or partnerships with external healthcare systems, research institutes, medical societies, NGOs, or across the pharmaceutical industry
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Education
Preferred Qualifications
- Appreciation of and experience in a compliance-driven environment
- 5+ years of pharmaceutical experience
- Experience leading implementation science, improvement science, and/or health services research at scale across multiple healthcare systems
- Experience leading large-scale public-private partnerships with measurable impact
- Experience conducting and publishing implementation research related to clinical care gaps
- Experience driving transformation in healthcare systems with focus on scale and sustainment
- Familiarity with implementation science frameworks/models and IHI models
- Track record leading cross-functional teams delivering exceptional customer experiences
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; conflict management and negotiation
- Critical thinking with ability to influence strategy and execution; growth mindset
- Self-directed, adaptable to ambiguity, and able to thrive in fast-paced environments
- Advanced degree preferred (e.g., healthcare professions, MBA); global experience with Affiliates
- Certifications/training in healthcare quality/improvement (e.g., CPHQ) or Implementation Science
Additional Requirements
- Travel required, ~20%, including some weekends and some international travel
