Position Overview
Field-based role requiring 60β70% travel within assigned territory.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, train, and lead a national team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs).
- Define and implement the field medical operating model (territory design, call planning, engagement metrics, performance standards).
- Serve as a player-coach maintaining a personal portfolio of national/academic KOL relationships while guiding team engagement.
- Foster a learning-oriented, high-performance culture grounded in scientific integrity, compliance, and patient-centricity.
- Co-develop and execute the Medical Affairs Launch Plan; align with commercial, clinical, and regulatory timelines.
- Operationalize the Medical Launch Readiness Framework in the field (KPIs, milestones, cross-functional accountability).
- Lead pre-launch KOL identification/mapping and ensure early MSL engagement with key academic/clinical centers and emerging thought leaders.
- Drive field medical readiness (MSL training curricula, scientific platform deployment, reactive/proactive engagement protocols).
- Establish field feedback loops to capture and share HCP insights cross-functionally.
- Oversee KOL engagement; lead medical advisory boards, scientific symposia, and congress strategies.
- Guide compliant scientific exchange and support emerging scientific collaborators.
- Represent Field Medical at national/regional scientific congresses.
- Collaborate on MSL onboarding/continuous training; maintain scientific fluency (education, journal clubs).
- Ensure field communications/materials meet MLR review and company compliance.
- Partner with Launch Core Team and support HEOR/Market Access, Clinical Operations, and evidence generation planning (IIS, RWE, registries).
- Define/oversee field metrics and dashboards; deliver regular reporting and use insights for medical strategy.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree required: PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent.
- 10+ years in Medical Affairs; 3β5 years in direct MSL leadership/field medical management.
- Experience building/scaling a field medical team (preferably launch/pre-launch).
- National-level KOL relationship development/management.
- Deep knowledge of MSL best practices, field medical compliance, and OPDP/regulatory guidelines.
- Exceptional scientific communication.
- Therapeutic area experience (e.g., oncology, rare disease, immunology).
- Biotech experience navigating first/second product launch.
- Familiarity with field force effectiveness tools (e.g., Veeva CRM, Salesforce Health Cloud).
- Exposure to HEOR/RWE/registry evidence generation in-field.
- Clinical practice/patient care experience is a plus.
