Senior Director, Customer Training

The Senior Director, Customer Training, will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our comprehensive training program across our customer-facing teams including Commercial, Market Access and Medical Affairs. This pivotal role will be directly responsible for training all field-based employees including Regional Directors, Senior Account Managers, and all Market Access and customer-facing roles, while also overseeing a Director of Medical Training who will be responsible for MSL training. You will partner closely with Account Leadership, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and HR to ensure a fully prepared field organization equipped to deliver innovative gene therapy solutions and navigate complex payer and treatment center ecosystems.
The position reports to the SVP, Head of Global Business Operations. We anticipate this role will require up to 40% of travel including to our Lexington office.
Key Result Areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
Strategic Planning & Training Development
- Develop and lead comprehensive training strategies aligned with brand objectives and gene therapy launch requirements.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop and maintain product & brand related training resources, workshops, and presentations to ensure content meet the needs of all stakeholders.
- Design training programs for all phases including pre-launch, launch, and post-launch.
- Create training curriculum covering disease state education, product knowledge, competitive landscape, selling skills, and comprehensive market access training.
- Establish training certification standards to ensure field readiness across all customer-facing roles.
- Manage all aspects of training, including program agendas and objectives, at-home study plans, virtual or live-classroom training, and providing trainee evaluations post program.
Market Access Training
- Develop specialized market access training programs covering payer landscape, health economics, formulary strategy, prior authorization processes, and value demonstration for gene therapies.
- Develop training programs for complex gene therapy reimbursement scenarios including outcomes-based contracts and risk-sharing agreements.
- Create specialized training for patient services teams on insurance verification, benefits investigation, and prior authorization support.
- Lead training on health economics data presentation, budget impact modeling, and cost-effectiveness demonstrations for payers.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Team Leadership
- Partner with Commercial, Market Access and Medical Affairs Leadership to identify performance gaps and develop targeted training interventions.
- Lead virtual and live onboarding programs focused on disease state knowledge, selling competencies, and comprehensive market access fundamentals.
- Build and lead a high-performing Customer Training team.
- Ensure all customer-facing roles receive training on patient assistance programs and reimbursement navigation.
Operational Excellence and Performance Management
- Leverage digital platforms and adult learning principles to optimize training effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Manage budgets and oversee external training vendors and content providers.
- Analyze performance data to identify skill gaps and drive targeted improvements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or Ph.D. in life science field a plus; MBA also a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology sales, training, or commercial operations.
- Strong preference for candidates with training market access professionals.
- Track record of designing successful training initiatives, including product launches.
- Experience with complex reimbursement scenarios, specialty pharmacy, and high-cost therapeutic market access strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in rare diseases, neurology, or gene therapy markets preferred.
- Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, sales methodologies, and training technology platforms.
- Experience with pharmaceutical training compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and project management skills.
- Proven ability to train complex market access concepts and payer negotiation strategies.
- Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and leadership capabilities.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to operate in fast-paced, evolving biotech environment.
