Role Summary

The Senior Director, Compensation Partner will play a key strategic role in shaping and driving Madrigal’s pay philosophy and compensation strategy across the organization. This leader will partner closely with HR Business Partners and line leadership to design, implement, and communicate compensation programs that enable us to attract, motivate, and retain exceptional talent while reinforcing our culture of performance, accountability, and purpose. This role requires a balance of strategic vision and hands-on execution, with the ability to translate data and market insights into practical solutions that support business growth and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with HR Business Partners and business leaders to provide expert guidance on compensation strategies aligned with Madrigal’s talent and business objectives.
  • Program Design & Execution: Lead the design and administration of competitive base pay, short-term incentive, and long-term equity programs that reinforce our pay-for-performance philosophy.
  • Pay Philosophy Stewardship: Champion and evolve Madrigal’s pay philosophy, ensuring consistency, fairness, and transparency in compensation decisions.
  • Market Analysis: Oversee benchmarking and market pricing processes to ensure compensation practices remain competitive and equitable.
  • Business Advisory: Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing data-driven insights to support organizational decisions on pay structures, promotions, and workforce planning.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all compensation programs comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal governance standards.
  • Communication & Education: Partner with the HR Business Partner community to educate managers and employees on compensation principles, helping build understanding and trust around our pay practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, leverage technology, and enhance total rewards delivery to improve the employee experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 15+ years of progressive compensation experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership or business partner capacity.
  • Deep knowledge of compensation design, market analysis, and job architecture.
  • Proven experience advising senior leaders and influencing strategic decisions relating to compensation activities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex compensation data and communicate actionable insights.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of building strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry preferred.
  • Some travel is required.
