Role Summary

Senior Data Scientist, RBQM Analytics at AbbVie. Works to apply advanced analytics across clinical development, driving innovation with ML and visual analytics to deliver data-driven insights for R&D. Identifies suitable ML/AI use cases and collaborators with cross-functional teams to inform decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with cross-functional teams to design work product and act as an analytics consultant. Anticipate issues affecting timelines or quality and develop options and solutions.
  • Lead and help establish design principles and standards to ensure analytical work product is consistent across projects and user experience is optimized.
  • Develop prototypes, test methods, and algorithms beyond standard statistical methods. Leverage emerging statistical methodologies, ML, and AI to create innovative analytical solutions.
  • Enable data-driven insights to support clinical development, including precision medicine.
  • Ensure adherence to federal and local regulations, GCPs, ICH guidelines, SOPs, and quality standards; stay abreast of evolving regulations and policies related to clinical development.
  • Identify business needs and support the creation of standard KPIs, reports, and statistical analyses.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams as an analytics consultant to evaluate progress of clinical trials and discuss emerging risks; apply ML techniques to validate assumptions and predict future behavior.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science, or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of analytics-related experience in clinical research with strong analytics and leadership competencies.
  • Advanced proficiency in R, Python, or other statistical packages; intermediate knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques.
  • Expert proficiency with visualization tools like Spotfire, Tableau, or equivalent.
  • Proven expertise with Machine Learning and other advanced analytics techniques.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to explain analytical and technical concepts in layman’s terms.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; track record of delivering in fast-paced environments and managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience with Cloud Computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) is preferred.

Additional Requirements
