The Senior Data Scientist II will develop and validate algorithms/models and help lead AI/ML solutions with strong initiative and self-sufficiency. Open to hiring at the Lead level commensurate with experience.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
- Develop and validate LLM-based solutions for healthcare/drug-development: content retrieval, generation, summarization, and inference.
- Enable software engineering for AI products: architect services, design APIs, build backends, and integrate with frontends while meeting performance, safety, privacy, and ethics requirements.
- Build/maintain data solutions (vector databases, embedding pipelines, knowledge bases) to support RAG and document understanding.
- Design, code, train, test, deploy, and iterate ML systems; collaborate with other data scientists and engineers.
- Apply prompt engineering, fine-tuning (supervised, LoRA, PEFT, etc.), and optimization (quantization, distillation, caching).
- Create technical documentation/runbooks/training materials.
- Stay current on GenAI/LLM research and best practices; mentor junior data scientists; participate in cross-functional teams.
Physical Requirements: Up to 10% overnight travel.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s or PhD highly preferred).
- Experience: Master’s + 4+ years, PhD + 2+ years, or Bachelor’s + 6+ years in LLM/generative AI (model selection, system design, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, evaluation) and deep/reinforcement learning fundamentals (transformers, GANs, VAEs).
- Programming: Python; familiarity with Jupyter, HuggingFace, PyTorch.
- Experience building pipelines/retrieval systems (vector DBs, embeddings, knowledge bases) for RAG/graphs/document understanding.
Preferred
- PhD + 2+ years in pharma/healthcare/regulated medical devices/other regulated fields.
- Deploying agentic healthcare solutions; CI/CD, cloud distributed systems, containerization, and test automation (esp. stateful LLM systems).
- Mentoring ability; publication record.
Benefits (explicit)
- Company bonus; long-term incentive and/or company vehicles (by level).
- Medical/dental/vision, life/disability insurance, 401(k), flexible spending, employee assistance, tuition reimbursement, and voluntary benefits; time off and parental leave.
