Role Summary

Senior Counsel, Legal, Business Development & Corporate at GSK. Responsible for complex, high-profile transactions including M&A, Licensing, Collaborations, Equity transactions, and other strategic alliances with emphasis on technology, data, and AI/ML within GSK’s Corporate Development, Business Development, and Alliance Management teams.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and serve as the legal lead on structuring, negotiation and alliance management of business development transactions, focusing on technology, data, and AI.
  • Build strong partnerships with legal, scientific, and business stakeholders to balance value and risks and deliver strategic agreements aligned with business priorities.
  • Work in a cross-functional team to resolve business and legal issues while managing legal and operational risks.
  • Engage and manage external legal counsel work product and budget per GELRT principles to ensure efficient use of external support.
  • Advise and support the Business Development Alliance Management Team on operational issues related to alliances.
  • Educate client businesses on sound legal practices and new developments affecting the business.
  • Contribute to the development of GSK strategy and risk management.

Qualifications

  • Required: U.S. Law degree, active US bar license in good standing
  • Required: At least 8 years of experience practicing as a lawyer, including significant experience advising on complex pharmaceutical/biotechnology M&A, Licensing and Collaboration transactions
  • Required: Experience as an in-house lawyer serving the employer client and the Business Partner (preferably in the pharmaceuticals/biotechnology field)
  • Required: Experience leading a team (directly or in a matrix relationship)
  • Required: Willingness and ability to travel (including international travel) as required

Skills

  • Understanding of Tech, Data and AI legal issues in pharma/biotech
  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects and shift priorities quickly in line with business needs
  • Collaborative, practical thinking and sound judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with teams, clients, and third parties
