Role Purpose
- Provide strategic legal leadership for AbbVie’s global AI regulatory, policy, and contracting framework to enable safe, compliant cross-border AI scaling.

Scope & Impact
- Global (OUS) across business functions and geographies
- Lead global AI governance, regulatory, and policy development; primary legal authority for AI regulatory/policy (OUS)
- Advise senior Legal, Compliance, and business leadership; significant cross-functional and executive influence

Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor/assess/interpret global AI regulations (e.g., EU AI Act and regimes in China, Japan, Australia, Brazil) and advise on business impact
- Develop/maintain enterprise AI legal policies, standards, and governance frameworks
- Partner with Privacy legal team for cross-border AI deployment (data transfer, localization, compliance)
- Develop/maintain AI contracting standards and model clauses (data usage/training rights, liability/indemnification, transparency/regulatory compliance)
- Draft/review/negotiate complex AI agreements (vendor, data, partnerships)
- Align enterprise AI policy positions with Government Affairs, Compliance, Privacy, and Ethics
- Support executive and Board/Audit Committee briefings; advise on high-risk/novel AI use cases
- Identify emerging legal/regulatory risks and define mitigation strategies

Qualifications
Required:
- JD or equivalent + active bar membership
- 5+ years legal experience
- Deep expertise in technology law, global regulatory frameworks, and data privacy
- Experience advising on cross-border regulatory issues and negotiating complex AI/technology agreements
- Strong executive communication/advisory skills
Preferred:
- 10+ years legal experience
- AI/ML regulatory framework experience (e.g., EU AI Act, GDPR); life sciences or other regulated industry experience; collaboration with government/regulatory bodies
