Brief Description
Reporting to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Senior Compliance Officer, Global R&D and Tech Ops identifies, mitigates, and manages compliance and privacy-related risks within Global R&D and Tech Ops. Applies extensive knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (e.g., False Claims Act, Anti-kickback Statute, anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, HIPAA, GDPR) and supports ethical decision-making within clinical trial protocols.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as a strategic business partner and risk advisor to R&D and Tech Ops across countries and therapeutic areas; provides regular updates on compliance risk areas, mitigation strategies, and dashboards on program effectiveness.
- Provides compliance advice and support to R&D and Tech Ops, including identifying, mitigating, and managing fraud/abuse and kickback risks in clinical trials and other development activities; supports ethical decision-making in clinical trial protocol/strategy/design; addresses trade sanctions-related risks.
- Acts as subject matter expert to develop global compliance and ethics policies and training materials in collaboration with the Senior Compliance Officer, Global Policies, Education, and Investigations.
- Regularly conducts compliance training.
- Designs and implements an effective monitoring and audit program for R&D and Tech Ops in collaboration with Monitoring, Auditing, and Third-Party Risk Management, with a focus on CRO and partner oversight.
- Coordinates with the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy lead team to advance department goals and drive consistent compliance/ethics practices.
- Stays current on laws, regulations, and industry trends and ensures they are reflected in compliance controls for R&D and Tech Ops.
- Coordinates and collaborates with Legal to support R&D and Tech Ops.
- Assists colleagues with additional Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy projects as needed to meet corporate objectives.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant compliance experience; at least 2 years supporting the R&D organization of a global pharmaceutical company.
- Solid judgment and business acumen; ability to assess compliance risks and mitigation strategies in R&D and Tech Ops contexts.
- Solid understanding of pharmaceutical/healthcare laws and regulations, particularly for R&D and Tech Ops.
- Experience working across multiple functions and geographies; high responsiveness and strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent oral and written communication; self-motivated and able to handle heavy workload; proactive and able to manage responsibilities independently and facilitate teamwork.
- Able to work accurately with urgency and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills (diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration) and ability to interface across all organizational levels and with external parties; adaptable to different cultures.
- Travel required.
