Senior Automation Engineer – Central Automation

Role: Senior Automation Engineer – Central Automation, focusing on integrating automated manufacturing systems, data exchange, and production information management within Lilly's biopharma manufacturing environment. Responsibilities: oversee architecture connecting shop-floor control systems with site-level and enterprise systems (MES, historian, LIMS, QMS, ERP); design and maintain data interfaces (OPC UA, MQTT, web services, databases); manage recipe and batch data; administer data historian (e.g., OSI PI); ensure data integrity and compliance (21 CFR Part 11); integrate material handling and identification systems (barcode, RFID, AGVs); provide technical guidance across teams; support system validation and audits; stay current with Industry 4.0 and IIoT innovations. Requirements: B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, or related; 5+ years in industrial automation, systems integration, or manufacturing IT/OT, preferably in cGMP environments; experience with data historian platforms, MES, and integration protocols; knowledge of material handling systems is a plus. Preferred: expertise in data historian (OSI PI), MES platforms, OPC UA/MQTT; familiarity with PLC/SCADA/HMI; experience with batch recipe management, data integrity standards, and warehouse automation. Location: Lilly Kenosha County, WI; standard M–F hours with occasional off-hours support; minimal travel; manufacturing area access with PPE.
