Role Summary

Senior Automation Engineer responsible for design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing information systems to improve manufacturing success rates and reduce downtime. Contributes to project delivery, supports capital and non-capital automation projects, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operations. Requires strong technical skills in control systems, cybersecurity alignment, and effective communication to mentor others and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the completion of projects, manage own time on agreed targets, develop plans for own projects and lead small project teams.
  • Monitor, generate and complete the periodic review, validation master plan for the automation engineering program.
  • Demonstrate good planning, organizing, time management and team participation skills.
  • Responsible for routine and preventive maintenance work, ensure all the equipment and facilities work safely, efficiently and reliably.
  • Generate and develop standard operating procedures and system support.
  • Analyze operational process problems and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Manage change control authoring and execution.
  • Participate in the site and network wide teams to provide cybersecurity alignment and direction.
  • Provide 24x7x365 support of automation systems and perform automation activities for capital and non-capital projects.
  • Modify moderately complex to highly complex control logic that requires a degree of scientific and/or manufacturing process expertise.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff and serve as a technical trainer, whenever necessary.
  • Clearly communicate progress and issues to peers.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience; or a master's degree with more than 0+ years of experience; or an associate's degree with 6 years of experience; or a high school diploma with 8 years of relevant experience
  • Required: Strong knowledge of computerized systems, compliance regulations and standards
  • Required: Experience with programming industrial control systems such as DCS, PLCs, SCADA systems, Historians, or SQL Server
  • Required: Demonstrated experience in project management to timelines and budgets
  • Required: Experience in troubleshooting issues to root cause and implementing corrective actions
  • Required: Experience with writing software test plans, user requirements, and system design documents
  • Required: Teamwork, good communication skills and training abilities
  • Required: Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Preferred: Relevant pharmaceutical experience
  • Preferred: Background in cGMP regulations and practical application to control systems
  • Preferred: Understanding of programming, and proficiency in at least one language
  • Preferred: Understanding of network infrastructure, Windows servers, and virtualization
  • Preferred: Technical troubleshooting experience within tight timelines
  • Preferred: Knowledge of site systems such as Aveva PI, Rockwell PLCs, FactoryTalk View, Microsoft SQL Server, Rockwell Batch, or similar technologies

  • Non-standard Work Schedule, Travel Or Environment Requirements: Ability to work extended hours, holidays and/or weekends; onsite majority with some remote/offsite work flexibility; availability to support operations during non-working hours
