Role Summary

Senior Associate Scientist to join the Analytical Development team at Vaxcyte. Primary responsibility is to support characterization of drug substances, intermediates and drug products by LCMS or other appropriate analytical methods. Located in San Carlos, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform and complete laboratory assignments with high quality and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare samples and execute analytical procedures according to the SOP.
  • Perform critical data analysis.
  • Assist in design, developing and implementing mass spectrometry-based workflows for characterization of proteins, conjugates, and other in-process molecules.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mass spectrometry instruments.
  • Document results of analyses and experiments with an electronic notebook system.
  • Support cross-functional teams with their analytic needs based on mass spectrometry.
  • Interpret, communicate, and present findings and results regularly at group meetings.

Qualifications

  • Required: BS in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry preferred; Biochemistry/Molecular Biology considered, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience. Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Required: Strong knowledge of mass spectrometry technologies, including Orbitrap, QTOF and triple quadrupole.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of NMR.
  • Required: Hands-on experience with peptide mapping and intact analysis by LCMS.
  • Preferred: Experience with peptide quantitation.
  • Required: Highly organized, strong attention to detail and excellent record keeping/documentation abilities.
  • Required: Demonstrate critical thinking and scientific curiosity while approaching complex problems.
  • Required: Eager and able to learn and understand new concepts with ease.
  • Required: Strong people skills and ability to communicate effectively with other team members.
  • Required: Ability to work under supervision and collaborate effectively with other team members in a demanding environment.
