Role Summary
The Advanced Lung Disease (ALD) Specialist is a field-based sales role focused on promoting United Therapeutics therapies, primarily Tyvaso, to physicians treating PH-ILD and IPF. You will build and maintain professional relationships with pulmonologists and other healthcare providers, own and manage a defined territory, and execute sales/marketing strategies to grow awareness and access to UT treatments. This remote role covers the Ann Arbor, MI area with substantial travel to support key accounts and regional activities.
Responsibilities
- Promote marketed products according to corporate guidance in an assigned geographic territory and designated accounts to actively interface with the PH-ILD and IPF community
- Build and maintain professional relationships with various customer types (MDs, NPs, PAs, RNs, and specialty distributor staff) to ensure maximal product messaging and education on assigned UT products, which include: Tyvaso, and according to package insert
- Analyze sales reports and develop and implement business plans to increase business and drive sales in key accounts, achieving or exceeding target sales goals
- Coordinate activities with other field-based team members (including RBD, and other field-based personnel to optimize selling, education and support efforts)
- Appropriately and effectively utilize available resources to drive sales with key customers
- Develop and maintain expert knowledge of disease state, product, and competitive landscape
- Utilize sales force automation system to maximize territory effectiveness and record-keeping
- Complete all UT administrative requirements in a timely manner, including but not limited to expense reports and call reporting (with all reporting requirements as outlined in UT Commercial Compliance Guidelines)
- Adhere to all corporate, external regulatory, and UT guidelines related to the promotion of our products
- Attend local/regional/national medical PH-ILD and/or IPF symposia and conferences in order to provide education and promotion support to key stakeholders in attendance and to enhance understanding of treatment trends
- Attend patient support group meetings and remain current with PH-ILD and/or IPF community in accordance with our PHA’s guidelines regarding support group interaction; participate (as directed) in project teams with sales and marketing teams to establish programs and resources to increase sales and awareness
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in nursing or life science), or equivalent experience
- Required: 6+ years of experience successfully selling pharmaceutical therapies or similar products to specialty physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals (i.e., cardiologists, pulmonologists, etc.) OR 6+ years of healthcare/nursing experience with advanced lung disease
- Required: 2+ years of experience with Cardiovascular and/or Pulmonary Disease Therapeutics areas
- Required: Expertise in Cardiovascular and/or Pulmonary Disease therapeutic area
- Required: Strong leader with proven selling record and outstanding communication skills
- Required: Demonstrated decision-making ability, planning and interpersonal skills
- Required: Develop and maintain complete knowledge of UT products and services
- Required: Valid Driver’s License in good standing
- Required: 2+ years of experience as a successful Cardiopulmonary Specialist, consistently exceeding sales targets
- Required: 1+ year of documented experience facilitating training workshops with new hires and/or colleagues at POA/Regional Meetings (Internal UT Employees Only) (required)
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience in specialty pharmaceutical/biotech sales
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience in PH-ILD and/or IPF sales
- Preferred: 2+ years of experience selling within institutional or major teaching centers environment
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in nursing or life science), or equivalent experience
Skills
- Strong clinical acumen and ability to communicate sophisticated scientific data
- Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management with physicians, nurses, and distributor staff
- Strategic planning and territory management
- Ability to analyze sales data and develop business plans
- Proficiency with sales force automation/CRM systems
- Strong written and oral communication; training and education capabilities
- Knowledge of PH-ILD/IPF disease states and competitive landscape

- Territory: Ann Arbor, MI area including Detroit, MI suburbs
- Location: Remote role within the Ann Arbor, MI area
- Travel: 75-80% travel for direct customer interactions, UT offices, and national events/conferences; travel by motor vehicle or airplane
