Role Summary

The Advanced Lung Disease (ALD) Specialist maintains and grows sales of United Therapeutics products, primarily Tyvaso, within a defined territory and serves as an educational resource for physicians and other health care professionals involved in PH-ILD and IPF. The role involves strategic territory management, building trusted relationships with pulmonologists and other clinicians, and delivering product education to support patient access and outcomes. This position is remote within the Akron, OH area and requires substantial travel.

Responsibilities

  • Promote marketed products according to corporate guidance in an assigned geographic territory and designated accounts to actively interface with the PH-ILD and IPF community
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with various customer types (MDs, NPs, PAs, RNs, and specialty distributor staff) to ensure maximal product messaging and education on assigned UT products, including Tyvaso
  • Analyze sales reports and develop and implement business plans to increase business and drive sales in key accounts, achieving or exceeding target sales goals
  • Coordinate activities with other field-based team members (including RBD and other field-based personnel) to optimize selling, education and support efforts
  • Adequately utilize available resources to drive sales with key customers
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of disease state, product, and competitive landscape
  • Utilize sales force automation system to maximize territory effectiveness and record-keeping
  • Complete all UT administrative requirements in a timely manner, including expense reports and call reporting in accordance with UT guidelines
  • Adhere to all corporate, external regulatory, and UT guidelines related to the promotion of our products
  • Attend local/regional/national PH-ILD and IPF symposia and conferences to provide education and promotion support to key stakeholders and to stay current on treatment trends
  • Attend patient support group meetings and remain current with PH-ILD and IPF community; participate in project teams with sales and marketing to establish programs and resources to increase sales and awareness
  • Territory includes Akron, OH area and surrounding regions (Cleveland west, Youngstown, Boardman, Canton, OH)

Qualifications

  • Required: 6+ years of experience selling pharmaceutical therapies to specialty physicians or 6+ years of healthcare/nursing with advanced lung disease
  • Required: 2+ years of experience with Cardiovascular and/or Pulmonary Disease Therapeutics areas
  • Required: Expertise in Cardiovascular and/or Pulmonary Disease therapeutic area
  • Required: Strong leadership with proven selling record and outstanding communication skills
  • Required: Demonstrated decision-making ability, planning and interpersonal skills
  • Required: Valid Driverโ€™s License in good standing
  • Senior ALD: 8+ years of experience selling pharmaceutical therapies to specialty physicians; 4+ years in specialty pharmaceutical/biotech sales; 4+ years selling within institutional or major teaching centers environment
  • Senior ALD: 2+ years of experience as a Cardiopulmonary Specialist, consistently exceeding sales targets
  • Senior ALD: 1+ year of documented experience facilitating training workshops with new hires and/or colleagues (Internal UT Employees Only)
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience in specialty pharmaceutical/biotech sales
  • Preferred: 2+ years of PH-ILD and/or IPF sales
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience selling within institutional or major teaching centers environment
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience selling pharmaceutical products distributed through specialty pharmacies

Skills

  • Relationship-building with physicians, NPs, PAs, RNs, and distributor staff
  • Analytical capability to analyze sales data and develop business plans
  • Knowledge of PH-ILD/IPF disease states, UT products, and the competitive landscape
  • Proficiency with sales force automation systems
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and comply with regulatory guidelines

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree (preferably in nursing or life science) or equivalent experience

Additional Requirements

  • Role is remote within the Akron, OH area with 75โ€“80% travel to meet with customers, UT offices, and national events
  • Willingness and ability to travel by motor vehicle and/or airplane
  • Final interviews are conducted in person at select locations; travel may be required for the final round
