General Summary
- Lead the Seattle Research Site (Immunology) and provide scientific and translational leadership to advance Vertex’s immunology and autoimmune pipeline across discovery, translational, and early clinical programs.
- Oversee daily Seattle site operations, expand laboratory space, ensure execution, and manage resources (CapEx/OpEx) aligned to research objectives.
- Contribute to immunology research strategy, governance, portfolio prioritization, and people development; serve as a scientific voice internally/externally.
Research Responsibilities
- Provide immunology research expertise (including Povetacicept and immune-mediated inflammatory disease programs).
- Shape and execute global immunology research strategy with senior leaders.
- Lead, mentor, and build a focused research team; develop operational plans aligned to development/commercial goals.
- Oversee projects with scientific excellence, personnel management, and financial accountability; anticipate and communicate obstacles.
- Partner across R&D, New Product Planning, and Investor Relations; represent Vertex in collaborations/BD; communicate scientific vision externally.
Site & Leadership
- Support research governance (new projects, lead optimization transitions, candidate nominations, tech investments).
- Lead key strategic initiatives and support talent/organizational development.
Knowledge/Skills & Qualifications
- MD/PhD or PhD in immunology or related field.
- Typically 15 years life sciences/academia and 7+ years supervisory/management experience.
- Proven immunology leadership in pharma/biotech or major academic research; drug/target hunter; strong team-building and change leadership; compelling communicator.
Pay Range
- $268,000–$402,000
