Role Summary

Scientist, Synthetic Molecule Process Development in Cambridge, MA. The role involves designing and executing research assignments within the synthetic molecule process development function for specific projects, and independently planning and executing complex experiments to solve technical challenges. The role requires coordinating with cross-functional peers, maintaining vendor relationships, and partnering with the CMC team to analyze manufacturing issues. You will develop and implement novel data collection, management, engineering, analysis, modeling, and interpretation approaches, and communicate results to Pharm Sci and CMC teams to drive project success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide theoretical/conceptual input to the design, development, and execution of research assignments for a specific project or projects within the functional area.
  • Independently plan and execute complex experiments, exploring novel approaches and methodologies to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Plan and coordinate work with departmental and cross-functional peers with an understanding of project timelines and deliverables.
  • Maintain and build relationships with existing key vendors; proactively analyze manufacturing issues and coordinate potential solutions with the CMC team; assist in the technical aspects of negotiations with vendors.
  • Develop and implement novel approaches and tools for data collection, management, engineering, analysis, modeling, and interpretation.
  • Review and interpret data, and communicate results with Pharm Sci functions and the CMC team; plan and implement solutions to project problems/issues.
  • Communicate activities from the functional area to project teams and request functional area action from project teams to senior leaders in the functional area.

Qualifications

  • Required: PhD degree in organic chemistry or related field.
  • Required: Experience using NMR spectroscopy, chromatography (TLC, GC, HPLC), IR spectroscopy, and Karl Fischer titration.
  • Required: Ability to manage time within individual, departmental, and corporate goals and timelines; coordinate and oversee internal and external resources (vendors) to ensure project milestones are met within schedules and budgets.
  • Required: Troubleshoot critical issues in a synthetic route at lab scale, pilot plant scale, and manufacturing scale; determine causes and propose possible solutions.
  • Required: Document and communicate technical findings clearly; prepare documentation detailing identified issues in measurable terms for submission to internal stakeholders; adapt communication styles to relay information to diverse audiences; author internal technical documents such as SOPs and reports, adhering to standards.
  • Required: Demonstrate mastery of organic chemistry or related field by completing coursework in Physical Organic Chemistry, Natural Product Synthesis, Organometallic Chemistry, Special Topics in Chemical Biology, Special Topics in Organic Chemistry, Fundamentals in Organic Reaction Mechanisms, and Current Topics in Organic Chemistry.
