Role Summary

Scientist/Sr. Scientist - mRNA Screening at Lilly. Support preclinical development efforts focused on mRNA therapeutics within the mRNA Platform team. Role involves designing and performing molecular biology and cell-based assays, isolating and maintaining primary cells, and contributing to cross-functional collaboration to meet project milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular biology experiments, including flow cytometry, luminescence assays, fluorescent imaging, western blot, and ELISA.
  • Purify primary immune cells from blood samples.
  • Maintain primary and immortalized cell cultures and perform high throughput cell-based assays using sterile techniques.
  • Assist in development of automated assays by operating liquid handlers, evaluating workflows, and suggesting improvements.
  • Manage lab supplies and instruments, establish and update SOPs, and maintain rigorous standards for safety, regulatory compliance, and data integrity.
  • Analyze, communicate and present experimental findings to internal teams and Lilly stakeholders.
  • Contribute to cross-functional collaboration within Lilly Gene Therapy and broader Lilly Research Laboratories, ensuring project milestones are met while adapting to evolving priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related field with 4+ years of relevant lab experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Required: strong background in mRNA work, primary cell isolation and culture, and cell-based assays (flow cytometry).
  • Preferred: experience with multi-color flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, western blot, enzymatic assays; experience with 96/384-well formats and automated liquid handlers; ability to learn new technologies quickly.
