Scientist / Senior Scientist, Structural Biology

Role: Senior Scientist in Structural Biology supporting drug discovery for biologics and small molecules across therapeutic areas like Oncology, Inflammation, and Rare Diseases. Objectives: develop and optimize cryo-electron microscopy (CryoEM) workflows, deliver structural insights, and support therapeutic program decisions. Responsibilities: partner with discovery teams to devise structural strategies, perform cryo-sample prep, data collection, modeling, and refine structures; develop scalable workflows; collaborate cross-functionally with Protein Science, Computational Biology, and Medicinal Chemistry; evaluate emerging technologies including automation and AI; support CryoEM platform activities at South San Francisco, including operation and user support of high-end instruments; contribute to scientific publications and innovation. Requirements: PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, or Biophysics, or MD/PharmD, or Master’s with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's with 5+ years; proficiency in cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, or other structural methods; experience supporting structure-based drug discovery, especially targeting membrane proteins, GPCRs, antibodies, or multispecifics; familiarity with automation tools and scripting skills advantageous. Preferred: experience with high-end CryoEM instruments (e.g., Titan Krios), developing new methodologies, mentoring, and a strong publication record. High-Value: focus on biologics/small molecules in therapeutic discovery, leveraging cryo-EM, with emphasis on technology development and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Location: likely on-site in South San Francisco with a focus on platform support and research activities.
