Role Summary

Scientist, Protein Analytics, Discovery Biologics — On-site, full-time in Boston. Focused on characterization of protein-based therapeutics and supporting discovery and early development programs within the Discovery Biologics group.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Discovery Biologics pipeline by generating high quality data for protein characterization including antigens, antibodies, and other fusion proteins.
  • Perform routine and advanced protein characterization using techniques such as HPLC/UPLC (SEC, IEX, RP), Capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS, cIEF), LC-MS.
  • Interpret and present analytical data to cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with protein engineering, purification, and formulation teams to support candidate selection and optimization.
  • Follow and author technical reports, SOPs, and contribute to regulatory documentation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records in compliance with internal quality standards.
  • Serve as a functional area representative on program teams.
  • Generate frequent characterization summary reports.
  • Troubleshoot automation methods and devices to maintain high throughput protein analyses.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s in a relevant field (protein sciences, biophysics, chemical or bioengineering, biochemistry, or related life sciences) with 2 years of hands-on industry experience; or Master’s in Biochemistry or related discipline with 0–1 years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience with protein analytical techniques, especially chromatography-based methods.
  • Familiarity with protein structure, post-translational modifications, glycosylation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with biophysical techniques (SEC; HIC, DSF, DSC) and their data management.
  • Familiarity with LC-MS workflows and sample preparation.
  • Ability to multitask, manage time, and prioritize activities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping in electronic lab notebooks.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
