Scientist, Probe Design
Responsibilities:
- Design made-to-order RNAscope probes for target sequences using proprietary software
- Answer technical inquiries related to target probe design and submission of New Probe Requests (NPR)
- Review NPR forms for accurate and efficient probe designs
- Use Linux command-line tools for sequence alignments (BLAST/BLAT), probe selection, and specificity
- Provide probe product training and troubleshooting via phone and email
- Serve as primary customer contact for technical issues and provide scientific consultation for research use only inquiries
- Collaborate with Commercial and Marketing teams to meet customer needs
- Monitor SalesForce queue/inbox/phone calls to ensure customer service excellence and timely resolution
- Contribute to new product development and introduction with R&D in a laboratory environment
- Develop the Probe Design team knowledgebase
- Present scientific and product updates to customers and internal teams
Qualifications:
- PhD with 4+ years of research experience in molecular biology, bioinformatics/computational biology, or closely related field
Skills/Experience:
- In-depth knowledge of genes/sequences and RNA biology
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools (Python, R, or equivalent) and programming (C/C++, Java)
- Experience with biological databases and bioinformatics software tools
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams; post-graduate experimental design and cell/molecular techniques
- Strong troubleshooting of complex technical problems across biological assays
- Self-directed, articulate; strong presentation and teaching skills
- 2+ years Biotech/Biopharma R&D
- 2+ years Linux and Python/Perl or other programming
- 2+ years next-generation sequencing/transcriptomic/epigenomic/genomic tools
- Prior probe design across multiple species; sequence analysis (database searches, multiple sequence alignment)
- Customer-facing, professional, and committed to customer satisfaction
Working Conditions:
- Travel ~10%; office setting; regular computer use; occasional extended hours

- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a computer
