Role Summary

Responsible for the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of intermediates and bioactive compounds using techniques such as column chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, automated normal phase purification, nuclear magnetic resonance, and parallel or combinatorial synthesis. Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses. Responsible for the communication and presentation of results to the project team to facilitate effective decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Plays key role in the rapid optimization of lead molecules utilizing modern technology available to medicinal chemists such as automated synthesis and purification
  • Participates in a multidisciplinary team committed to the continuous improvement of the lead optimization process as well as the expeditious identification of development compounds
  • Designs, plans and conducts synthesis of intermediates and analog libraries and communicates results to the project or program team
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Required: BS/BA degree AND 2+ years of relevant experience, including familiarity utilizing any or all of the following: parallel synthesis, lab automation, and purification in the optimization of lead compounds
  • Required: MS/MA degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry preferred AND some similar experience noted above
  • Required: PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or related field preferred AND some related postdoctoral experience preferred
  • Required: Working knowledge of organic synthesis, parallel synthesis, medicinal chemistry, lab automation, and purification in the optimization of lead compounds
  • Required: Recognizes fundamental anomalies in data points and identifies issues in experiments / processes
  • Required: Begins to understand how to think outside of the technical process and consider the impact decisions will have on the broader scientific goals
  • Required: Strong knowledge of scientific discipline
  • Required: Good knowledge of scientific principles, methods and techniques
  • Required: Good knowledge and demonstrated ability working with a variety of laboratory equipment/tools
  • Required: Strong computer skills
  • Required: Good problem-solving, analytical thinking skills
  • Required: Detail oriented
  • Required: Ability to meet deadlines
  • Required: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional scientists
  • Preferred: Experience with parallel synthesis, automated synthesis, and purification in lead optimization
