Role Summary

Gilead Sciences is seeking a talented and highly motivated Scientist to join our inflammation group. The role is lab-based and focuses on the discovery, research, and development of novel immunotherapeutic agents to address unmet medical needs of inflammatory diseases including inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis. The candidate will support projects across discovery research and into early development on multidisciplinary project teams, independently design and execute experiments to advance understanding of disease biology, and have opportunities for career growth in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing and executing scientific research for the discovery of drug targets, the development of drug candidates, and the identification and validation of drug combinations.
  • Independently designs, conducts, analyzes in vitro and in vivo experiments to support the initiation and/or advancement of drug candidates.
  • Works collaboratively in cross-functional project teams
  • Proactively evaluates new technologies and develop new assays to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.
  • Capable of preparing technical study reports, INDs, and patent applications.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must think critically and creatively, stay informed of the latest developments in the field, and have strong organizational and planning skills.

Qualifications

  • Required: 6+ Years with BS OR
  • Required: 4+ Years with MS OR
  • Required: 0+ Years with PhD/PharmD
  • Preferred: PhD & 2 years of experience preferred.
  • Preferred: Strong background and hands-on experience in human immunology, inflammatory diseases, or immune modulation strategies
  • Preferred: Experience with mouse pre-clinical models of disease; mouse handling experience and in-vivo techniques
  • Preferred: Demonstrated experience in target discovery, translational research, and drug development
  • Preferred: Subject matter expertise in evaluation of large molecule therapeutics; PhD or equivalent and at least 2 years post-PhD or drug development experience in immunology/inflammation
  • Preferred: Demonstrated leadership in hypothesis-driven biological research with quality publications
  • Preferred: Ability to work in a cross-functional, collaborative team and communicate clearly to diverse audiences
