Role Summary

Scientist II, In Vivo, Enzymatic and Metabolic Therapeutic Area. Join the Enzymatic and Metabolic In Vivo team to design and execute key in vivo studies focused on developing therapeutics to transform the lives of people with genetic metabolic disorders. The role involves designing and executing in vivo studies, collaborating across Research and Early Development to identify, develop, and execute project strategies for in vivo testing of novel therapeutics.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on genetic metabolic diseases
  • Contribute to novel therapeutic programs based on innovative discoveries
  • Perform research and publish findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences
  • Partner with scientists and the Research and Early Development team to develop and execute the program's strategic plan
  • Present program data at internal forums and governance meetings
  • Write, review, and contribute to study synopses, protocols, study reports, and regulatory documents
  • Collaborate with BioMarin functions, CROs, universities, analytical labs, and partners to ensure progression of projects
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary drug development teams and potentially lead sub-teams
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication
  • Build/foster cross-functional collaborations within and external to BioMarin
  • Perform in vivo tasks including animal handling, dosing (SC, IP, IV, RO, PO), blood collection, imaging, tissue collection, and data management
  • Maintain compliance with institutional, local, and federal regulations; ensure safety and meticulous records
  • Communicate plans and results to the project team and support regulatory filings for pivotal studies
  • Manage time and priorities to meet deadlines; share knowledge with team members
  • Document methods and outcomes; maintain SOPs and electronic lab notebooks
  • Willingness to work onsite full-time, including off hours and weekends as study needs require
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • PhD in a related subject area with demonstrated in vivo research experience in metabolic disease
  • Postdoctoral or previous industry experience in genetic metabolic diseases
  • Extensive hands-on experience with rodent in vivo work in the metabolic field
  • Proficiency with administration of test articles, perfusion and tissue collection, blood collection, and rodent surgical models
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with regulatory interactions and documentation is a plus

Additional Requirements

  • This position is full-time on-site in Petaluma, CA, with occasional work on site in San Rafael, CA
  • Willingness to work on-site full-time including off-hours and weekends based on study needs
  • Must complete company training requirements and adhere to safety protocols
