Role Summary
The Scientist II, Analytical Chemistry will join AbbVie's Pilot Plant Analytical Flex Team within the Synthetic Molecules Analytical Research and Development (SM ARD) organization. The role involves development and validation of analytical methods, supporting API campaigns, and testing large volumes of samples, while interfacing with Pilot Plant customers. The successful candidate will also mentor and supervise junior analysts and work across the North Chicago and Abbott Park sites in a fast-paced, hybrid laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan and perform analytical tasks competently and independently within a timely fashion, generating reliable results for routine sample testing as well as method development and validation.
- Serve as analytical expert and supervisor on the team; guide and assist junior analysts with method development, validation, troubleshooting, and designing experiments for junior analysts.
- Document experimental activities and results in a GMP-compliant fashion, with careful attention to detail, using electronic data acquisition/management systems and electronic laboratory notebooks; verify other analystsβ work.
- Communicate issues, problems, and solutions effectively within the team and with customers and colleagues outside the team.
- Author and revise analytical methods, reports, and memos; effectively interface with customers and coordinate assignments and timely execution of tasks among multiple analysts.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate would have at least 5β7 years of relevant experience with a BS or 3β5 years with an MS; depending on education and experience, the position may be filled at grade 15 or 16.
- Analytical chromatographic chemistry experience, preferably from a GMP-type or QC-type laboratory environment.
- Experience with HPLC and GMP documentation is required; experience with GC and/or mass spectrometry is highly desired; experience with method development and/or validation is preferred.
- Experience with instrument troubleshooting is preferred.
- Should be a quick learner, with interest in analytical chemistry, and experienced at working with lab-scale analytical equipment and instrumentation.
- Open to working flexible hours, including 10β20% off-shift work (late evenings, early mornings, or weekends).
- Adaptable and flexible overall due to constantly changing timelines and task priorities; able to divide time between North Chicago and Abbott Park sites.
