Summary
Scientist I, Radiochemistry β Isotope Production (lead technical role supporting R&D radiochemical and analytical methods for isotope programs; develop/optimize/scale radiochemical processes to produce Actinium-225 via cyclotron irradiation of Radium-226 targets; focus on separations, process engineering, automation, and manufacturing readiness).
Job Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and optimize radiochemical processes for production/purification/recovery of Actinium-225 and related isotopes.
- Develop separation/purification methods (chromatography, precipitation, solvent extraction, other radiochemical techniques).
- Support scale-up from benchtop to shielded hot cell operations.
- Perform hands-on work with alpha-emitting radioactive materials, following radiological safety.
- Create process flow diagrams, equipment specs, operating procedures, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with engineering on equipment, automation, shielding, and facility integration.
- Support target processing development, radionuclide recovery/waste minimization, troubleshooting.
- Evaluate emerging technologies/literature; analyze experimental data; guide process decisions.
- Support technology transfer to manufacturing; contribute to regulatory/safety/manufacturing readiness; mentor juniors.
- Use AI tools to enhance productivity/quality. Travel: <5%.
Education/Experience
- BS/MS with 5+ years (or 3+ years hands-on) in radiochemistry or equivalent; or PhD with 1+ years.
Skills/Qualifications
- Experience with Actinium-225/Radium-226/Thorium-229/Thorium-228/Radium-224 or similar alpha systems.
- Hot cells/gloveboxes/shielded enclosures/remote handling; cyclotron radioisotopes and post-irradiation processing.
- Ion exchange/extraction chromatography, solvent extraction, radionuclide recovery.
- Automation/fluid handling/automated separation equipment.
- Analytical methods (HPGe, alpha spectroscopy, ICP-OES/ICP-MS, liquid scintillation, etc.); GxP familiarity.
- Strong data analysis and technical writing; ethics/integrity and confidentiality.
