Scientist I – Cell Culture Development (South San Francisco, CA)

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop cell culture processes for GMP applications, including process development, scale-up, and technology transfer.
- Perform inoculum expansion and cell bank generation.
- Execute cell culture experiments using Ambr250 and 2L bioreactors.
- Perform pilot-scale material generation using 50L, 200L, and 500L single-use bioreactors.
- Run depth filtration/centrifugation primary recovery at small and pilot scales.
- Tech transfer master cell bank generation, cell culture, and primary recovery to GMP facilities.
- Provide person-in-plant support at GMP manufacturing.
- Optimize N-1 perfusion and intensified fed-batch processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally (cell line, purification, analytical, formulation) and represent the group in meetings.
- Author/review technical reports, GMP campaign summaries, and regulatory filing sections.
- Identify opportunities to optimize platform processes and present findings at conferences.

Qualifications:
Required:
- BS (5 years) or MS (2 years) in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology, or related field.
- Proficient aseptic techniques.
- Experience with mammalian suspension cell culture in shake flasks, Ambr250, and 2L bioreactors.
- Strong understanding of mammalian cell/molecular biology and cell culture bioprocess engineering.
- Detail-oriented, quick learner, adaptable, collaborative.
- Experience authoring/reviewing technical reports.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and JMP (or similar).

Preferred:
- Perfusion experience, especially ATF at bench.
- Pilot-scale operations (50L/200L/500L single-use) and harvest operations.
