Role Summary

Scientist in Flow Cytometry at AstraZeneca, based in Gaithersburg, supporting scientists, operating and maintaining flow cytometers, sorting cells, and ensuring accurate data management. Collaborate across therapeutic areas in a fast-paced environment under the guidance of senior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot instruments, keep records of weekly usage, ensure instrument data is accurately transferred and handled, and facilitate IT tasks and internal support services.
  • Become proficient with Fluorescence-activated Cell Sorting (FACS) and support the cell sorting effort.
  • Design and implement flow cytometry-based immune technologies.
  • Become an expert in multicolour flow cytometry, review and analyse data, interpret experimental results, and summarize data for presentations and reports with accountability for accuracy.
  • Contribute to the development of new technological platforms such as Imaging flow cytometry.
  • Demonstrate excellent collaborative and proactive problem-solving skills to include identifying a problem and taking appropriate actions and knowing when to seek guidance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€šร„รดs degree with 5+ years of directly relevant experience and outstanding performance, or Masterโ€šร„รดs degree with 3+ years of directly relevant experience and outstanding performance, or Ph.D. and 0+ years experience in Immunology, Immuno-Oncology, Cell Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related scientific field (no prior experience required).
  • Lab experience in flow cytometry.
  • Experience with a variety of flow cytometry data analysis and bioinformatic tools, including FlowJo, FCS Express, and/or OMIQ or Cytobank.
  • Familiarity with immunology techniques such as cell culture, blood cell processing and cell counting.
  • Great teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Cell sorting and spectral flow cytometry experience is highly desirable.
  • Microscopy or imaging flow cytometry experience is desirable.
  • Python or R experience is a plus.
  • Advanced data analysis background is a plus.
