As a part of a growing in vivo Bioscience team within the R&I department, we are seeking a highly motivated scientist with hands-on in vivo skills to join our collaborative team. This candidate would have experience in immunology or related discipline. This is a lab-based position. The role will initially be based in Waltham, MA within AstraZeneca’s state-of-the-art laboratories where you will follow the science to help drive innovation and advance medicine to help improve patient lives. In October 2026 we will be located at the new state of the art facilities in Kendall Square Cambridge. Main Duties and Responsibilities In this role, you will be an in vivo experimental scientist within Respiratory and Immunology Department focusing on developing therapeutics for the treatment of immune and autoimmune diseases such as SLE, fibrosis and arthritis using mouse models. You will generate preclinical and translational data in support of key portfolio programs and drive technical excellence in bioscience research. Strong expertise in in vivo mouse models and hands-on in vivo skills is required and multiparameter flow cytometry, multiplex cytokine read-outs, qPCR is essential. The role will sometimes involve implementing protocols over timelines that extend outside of normal working patterns. . Accountabilities and responsibilities: Excellent hands-on in vivo skills and the ability to independently run disease and mechanistic models, including administering candidate drugs and collecting a range of biological samples. Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical compliance as well as data integrity. Depending on experience you may be assigned as in vivo lead for studies supporting pre-clinical discovery and early development projects. Design and develop disease-relevant in vivo models and biomarkers Contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of primary data as well as writing reports and summaries. Supporting drug discovery projects to meet their objectives by acting as an effective and creative team member. Essential requirements Master’s degree in biology, immunology or relevant discipline and 5+ years of relevant industry experience with extensive proven track record of in vivo work required. Practical In vivo experience and experimental skills in the use of animal models and tissue processing including mice handling, injections (IP, IV, SC, ID), PO dosing, blood collection. Tissue harvesting and processing for downstream analysis. Experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques including RT-PCR, ELISA, multi-parameter flow cytometry and assay development. Good understanding of pharmacology, physiology and immunology. Analytical skills related to in vivo research and data analysis. Good written and oral communication skills in English. As highly motivated, independent scientist - be able to work effectively as part of a team and develop ideas by incorporating the views of others. Able to communicate effectively across language, cultural, or other barriers. Understanding of statistical methods, quality control including data reporting and archiving. Desirable requirements Immunology/autoimmune disease knowledge, including target and mechanism knowledge (e.g. SLE, arthritis, Sjogren’s) Experience with humanized mice models Why Join Us? The annual base pay for this position ranges from $92,252.00 - $138,378.00. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles.
