Role Summary

Join our Neuroscience Disease Area within Novartis Biomedical Research to drive human disease modeling and support drug discovery across multiple neurological disorders. This role focuses on developing iPSC-derived models and generating assays to advance preclinical programs in neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory, and neuromuscular diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop human iPSC-derived complex models of motor neurons and glia (microglia and astrocytes) to advance our Neuroscience preclinical program
  • Generate cellular and biochemical assays for compound profiling as well as for drug-discovery target validation
  • Characterize ex vivo mechanistic mouse model tissues for PKPD efficacy and for biomarker validation
  • Collaborate with senior lab members, managers, and scientists to design, execute, and generate high-quality, reproducible data across multiple projects
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate/present scientific data within project teams and beyond, while maintaining accurate study records and ensuring prioritization of critical tasks
  • Independently design experiments and advance assay development, while working in a highly collaborative team setting

Qualifications

  • Senior Scientist I: Bachelor's and 4+ years or Master’s degree and 2+ years of industry or academic research experience in Neuroscience, Cell & Molecular Biology or Biochemistry (or equivalent) is required. Senior Scientist II: Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of experience or Master's degree and 4+ years of experience
  • Expertise in drug-discovery flow-chart assay development, including leveraging human iPSC-derived disease models and ex vivo tissue analysis
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, such as RT-qPCR, ddPCR, in situ hybridization (ISH)/RNAscope, Western Blotting, ELISA and Immunofluorescence
  • Experience in high-content imaging and analysis software. Knowledge of computer software and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism)
  • Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset

  • iPSC-derived disease models
  • Molecular biology techniques (RT-qPCR, ddPCR, ISH/RNAscope, Western Blotting, ELISA, Immunofluorescence)
  • High-content imaging and data analysis
  • Effective communication and teamwork

Education

  • Relevant: Neuroscience, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or closely related field
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) preferred for higher levels

Additional Requirements

  • Experience with in vivo PKPD evaluation and rodent handling/intracerebroventricular injections is preferred
