Zoetis has the first monoclonal antibody therapy for treating atopic dermatitis in dogs. We are currently seeking to fill a new position to support our growing biopharmaceutical portfolio.
Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development, Biological Analytical Sciences, in Kalamazoo, MI, is seeking an Analytical Scientist at the Scientist level. The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in protein chemistry and characterization of biological molecules. The candidate will contribute to the characterization and novel method development for biological products and should have a robust understanding of the techniques and assays used for protein characterization. Agility in data analytics is highly preferred. Self-motivation, excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and an ability to work independently and within a group are essential to this role.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Characterization of biological molecules by identifying degradation pathways and defining critical quality attributes
· Design and conduct laboratory experiments including method development, validation, and transfer to partner groups. Primary techniques are capillary electrophoresis, HPLC, microplate assays, and mass spectrometry
· Maintain familiarity with scientific literature and apply new advancements to projects
· Convey complex concepts to interdisciplinary teams through oral presentations and written reports
· Collaborate with other scientists to advance the development of state-of-the-art techniques to characterize biopharmaceutical products
· Document and communicate results in electronic notebooks, technical reports, and oral presentations
Minimum Qualifications:
· BS or MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or other related discipline, with 3+ years industry experience, preferably in the biopharmaceutical industry
· Motivated self-starter with excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills
· Experience with separation techniques including capillary electrophoresis (cIEF, CE-SDS), and HPLC (size exclusion, ion exchange, HILIC, reversed-phase) for the analysis of complex proteins.
· Understanding of protein structure, post-translational modifications, and potential sequence liabilities
· Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude toward process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Proficiency with Empower and ChemStation chromatography data systems
· Experience with mass spectrometric software: Genedata Expressionist, Mass Hunter, Xcalibur, and BioPharma Finder
· Ability to recognize anomalous or inconsistent results and interpret outcomes
· Familiarity with biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including cell culture, purification, and formulation
· Skills and experience in experimental design of experiments (DOE), technical problems solving, continuous improvement; deepens technical skills through exposure and continuous learning
· Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (ICH, USP) and expectations from various regulatory authorities (USDA, EMA, FDA).
