Position: Scientific Software Developer, Data Foundry

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data processing pipelines for complex scientific datasets (chemical, biological, high-throughput, automation-generated), ensuring FAIR compliance and machine-actionability.
- Develop RESTful APIs and microservices for unified programmatic access to LIMS, ELNs, instruments, data warehouses (Postgres, Redshift, Snowflake), and analytical databases.
- Support continuous improvement of LIMS and adjacent systems for evolving scientific workflows, security, and scalability.
- Work with bench scientists to prototype custom applications, dashboards, and workflow tools; validate via iterative feedback.
- Partner with Tech@Lilly Product Engineering to hand off mature prototypes for enterprise scaling (transition criteria, documentation, SLAs).
- Build integrations for lab automation equipment, scheduling systems, and instrument data streams with metadata and execution traceability.
- Develop software for robotic workflow control, instrument driver interfaces, and real-time data capture.
- Create modular, reusable automation workflow components scientists can configure without code.
- Enable agentic lab interfacing between automation platforms and AI experimental planning.
- Build and operate cloud-native components (AWS/Azure/GCP) with containers (Kubernetes/Docker), IaC, CI/CD, and orchestration (Prefect/Airflow/Nextflow).
- Apply DevSecOps practices (security scanning, code review, automated testing); participate in agile cross-functional development.

Basic Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in CS, Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, Computational Biology, Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related STEM.
- Bachelor: 3+ years; Master: 1+ years scientific software development; knowledge of experimental data types/workflows.
- Python plus at least one: Java, C#, Go, or TypeScript; SQL skills appropriate to level.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time; no visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications
- REST APIs/data pipelines/microservices for scientific/technical apps.
- Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), Docker/Kubernetes, Git.
- Experience with LIMS/ELNs (e.g., Benchling) and instrument integration; lab automation digital integration (OPC-UA, serial/USB, scheduling platforms).
- Data warehousing (Postgres/Redshift/BigQuery/Snowflake) and scientific ontologies/standards.
- Cheminformatics (RDKit, SchrΓΆdinger, MOE) or bioinformatics (Biopython, Bioconductor, sequence analysis pipelines).
- SciPy/NumPy; ODE solvers/optimization/PK-PD modeling.
- Workflow orchestration (Prefect/Airflow/Nextflow/WDL) and CI/CD.
- Learning agility; experience with compiled languages (C/C++ or others) for performance-critical workflow porting.

Benefits
- Eligible for company bonus and comprehensive benefits for full-time employees (e.g., 401(k), pension, vacation, medical/dental/vision, flexible benefits, life insurance, time off/leave, well-being benefits).
