Scientific Director/Sr. Scientific Director Peptide Chemistry lead and mentor for a peptide medicinal chemistry team; drive strategic direction for next-generation peptide therapeutics and grow capabilities within Research.
Responsibilities
Direct a team of peptide chemists tasked with designing, synthesizing and characterizing novel peptides for eventual development candidate nomination
Provide strategic direction and oversight on multiple projects including the chemistry strategy, overall goals and timelines
Participate in and/or lead multiple discovery projects and project teams
Drive the development and incorporation of novel technologies and methods into the Peptide Chemistry team
Collaborate with the Bioconjugation, Antibody, Small Molecule and Oligonucleotide teams to maximize synergy
Collaborate with the broader research team by communicating results, sharing insights, making plans, and setting goals to enable project success
Anticipate potential issues and provide contingencies and resolutions to continuously improve processes
Develop their team to ensure professional growth
Monitor and evaluate completion of work and projects of direct reports to ensure a high-functioning team
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
PhD (preferred) in chemistry or related field and 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and prior managerial / functional management experience
MS/MA degree and 13+ years of similar experience, OR
BS/BA degree and 15+ years of similar experience
Demonstrated scientific excellence in peptide chemistry or related research, with significant publications
Excellent leadership skills and ability to lead multi-level or indirect teams
Demonstrated delivery of multiple clinical candidate peptide molecules
Expert understanding of the drug discovery process
Thorough understanding of peptide developability and associated assays
Experience in protein bioconjugation and/or peptide delivery technologies strongly preferred
Experience with small molecules and oligonucleotides strongly preferred
Strong work ethic and willingness to engage across therapeutic areas
Internal thought leader with extensive technical and business expertise
Ability to solve critical issues innovatively and to communicate results and strategies to staff and executives
Strong attention to detail; excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills
