Role Summary

The Scientific/Medical Director, Pipeline Medical Strategy - Psychiatry is a highly strategic scientific expert with deep expertise across clinical, drug development, and medical strategy who can act as an influential leader within the R&D organization to co-steward assets on cross-functional asset teams. This position leads the development and execution of medical strategy and tactics to secure insights, develop scientific value, advance pipeline assets, and provide strategic medical input to cross-functional partners. It encompasses core medical affairs activities including HCP and stakeholder interactions, insight capture, data generation and interpretation, and educational initiatives, with accountable medical deliverables for assigned assets. The role can be based in Mettawa, IL; Florham Park, NJ; or Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee execution of medical affairs strategies and tactics
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of medical affairs strategies with overall business objectives
  • Provide medical and scientific support to internal and external stakeholders, including key opinion leaders, clinicians, payers, and patients
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including key opinion leaders, academic institutions, and regulatory agencies
  • Lead the development and execution of scientific communication plans, including publication planning, medical education, and scientific exchange
  • Provide input into clinical development plans, study protocols, and study reports to ensure alignment with medical affairs strategies
  • Represent the company at scientific and medical conferences, symposia, and advisory boards
  • Provide scientific and medical expertise to cross-functional teams, including research and development, regulatory affairs, market access, and commercial teams
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards in all medical affairs activities
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, competitor landscape, and regulatory changes to proactively identify potential challenges or opportunities for assets

Qualifications

  • Scientific Director: Scientific degree (bachelor’s) required; MD, PhD, PharmD, or other advanced degree strongly preferred; minimum 7–10 years in medical affairs with focus on asset/pipeline strategy; field experience preferred; strong neuroscience/psychiatry knowledge; demonstrated strategic acumen; excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work cross-functionally; strong leadership and management skills
  • Medical Director: Medical Doctorate (M.D.) or equivalent (D.O. or non-US equivalent); relevant specialty in academic/hospital setting preferred; residency/fellowship preferred; 0–2+ years in the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent; prior Medical Affairs experience focused on asset/pipeline strategy preferred; strong neuroscience/psychiatry knowledge; ability to interact externally and internally to support global business strategy; excellent English communication skills; strong collaboration in cross-functional settings
