Role Summary
Novartis’ Global Health group is looking for a highly motivated and talented biologist to support a drug discovery program focusing on emerging viruses with pandemic potential and parasitic diseases. The successful candidate will work in a team led by a Ph.D. level scientist and will be accountable for the design, execution and interpretation of biochemical and cellular assays to support the discovery and characterization of novel drug candidates. Location: Emeryville, CA. This is a short-term contract assignment, not to exceed 6 months.
Responsibilities
- Develop and run new biochemical and cellular assays to support drug discovery efforts
- Troubleshoot assays with minimal input from supervisor
- Conduct mechanism of action studies
- Liaise with various functions such as Protein Sciences and Medicinal Chemistry
- Work with external collaborators and contract research organizations
- Present findings at internal scientific meetings
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Required: Extensive mammalian cell culture and molecular biology experience
- Required: Ability to implement standard operating procedure (SOP) with minimal/no assistance
- Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to give presentations
- Required: Critical reading of scientific journals and independently comes up with new SOP
- Required: Assist in new standard operating procedure (SOP) preparation and implementation
- Required: Highly collaborative within the team and across disciplines
- Preferred: Experience in drug discovery industrial setting
- Preferred: Assay development experience
