Role Summary

Research Scientific Associate Director, Clinical Imaging provides technical and strategic leadership for imaging biomarker endpoints in clinical trials. The role interfaces between the Clinical Imaging team and Takeda program teams, guiding imaging strategy, governance, and external collaborations to support multi-therapeutic trials. Based in Cambridge, MA, the position contributes to building a global imaging network and ensures timely delivery of imaging-related study deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and strategic advice to programs seeking to employ imaging biomarkers
  • Leads the implementation of imaging techniques to support business decisions for the Takeda portfolio
  • Manages development and implementation of governance and performance-based metrics for critical imaging vendor partners
  • Contributes to building and maintaining a global external Imaging network for Takeda
  • Serves as a point of contact to the network of Imaging CROs, Academic Imaging Centers, and Image Archive & Analysis vendors
  • Subject matter expert in imaging modalities (PET, MRI, CT, etc.) for imaging biomarker endpoints in clinical trials
  • Represents Imaging on cross-functional Study Execution Teams, Vendor study teams, and Clinical Sub-Teams to support imaging strategies
  • Works with Clinical Operations to implement imaging-specific components of research protocols
  • Manages governance documents (CDAs, consultancy agreements with Imaging KOLs, MSAs for imaging CROs) with Procurement, Legal, and Clinical Operations
  • Provides cost estimates for Imaging-related trial execution
  • Assists Procurement with descriptions of imaging services and reviews budget proposals for imaging CROs
  • Ensures proper implementation of imaging in clinical trials and oversight of imaging deliverables
  • Enables conduct of imaging clinical studies across platforms and geographies
  • Maintains a scientific profile through conferences, consortia, and disclosures

Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific discipline with 6+ years of experience, or MS with 12+ years, or BS with 14+ years
  • Completion of formal training as Image Technologist or related field preferred
  • Experience in drug development and/or design and implementation of imaging in clinical trials
  • Pragmatism to apply innovative imaging technologies in a fit-for-purpose manner
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • agility to respond quickly to changing situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal abilities

Education

  • PhD, MS, or BS with relevant imaging/clinical trial experience as specified above

Skills

  • Expertise in imaging modalities (PET, MRI, CT, etc.) and imaging biomarker endpoints
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to translate scientific insights into trial design
  • Effective communication of complex imaging concepts to diverse audiences
