Role Summary

The Bioassay Quality Control department provides team members the opportunity to practice and learn a variety of laboratory techniques. This position is responsible for performing protocol-defined bioassays on proteins and antibodies to demonstrate the activity of a product. The position requires maintenance of cell lines and isolation of primary cells for use in the assays. Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) documentation and workflow is required in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cell lines; isolate primary cells from human/animal blood and animal tissue for use in bioassays. Freeze cell stock for future applications.
  • Perform routine bioassays following the instructions for quality control on proteins, antibodies, and related products.
  • Analyze and report data with the consideration of intra and inter-assay variations and other factors which may affect the assay results.
  • Keep accurate records of all experiments performed.
  • Follow GMP guidelines, documentation, and workflow.
  • Perform stability testing and data reports for products.
  • Fill cell requests for intra-company use.
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance, including cleaning of laboratory equipment. Stock laboratory supplies. Prepare aliquots of shared reagents.
  • Follows company policies and practices as outlined in Handbook and follow guidelines regarding safety as outline in the AWAIR, Chemical Hygiene and Exposure Control manuals in accordance to the job.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Basic knowledge of cell biology, chemistry, and lab equipment (pipettes, microscope, centrifuge, and incubator).
  • Problem solving ability, record keeping (Excel, Access databases) skills, written communication (lab notebook) and organizational skills.
  • Math skills โ€“ algebraic equations for solving calculations, stoichiometry. Ability to convert mass units to molar units.
  • General understanding of tissue culture and sterile technique. Basic understanding of cell growth cycle.
  • Skill in establishing effective interpersonal relationships such as the ability to solicit key ideas and information.
  • Proficient in planning, organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Knowledge of companyโ€™s safety policy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to pay attention to details and perform at a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to act independently on routine assignments or on projects with a team.
  • Ability to work hours that confirm to standard business operations (8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.).
  • Flexibility to work alternate or additional hours as needed, including occasional short weekend work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in the biological sciences or equivalent, with 0 to 2 years related experience.
