Role Summary
You're passionate about science and want to be in a hands-on role supporting our transgene analysis team. The Research Associate I will assist with basic Molecular Biology techniques and will focus on generating protein expression data from cell and tissue samples.
Responsibilities
- Apply scientific research methodologies to execute experimental protocols, troubleshoot issues, and manage daily tasks efficiently
- Perform cell and tissue homogenization and measure total protein content using a BioTEK plate reader
- Conduct and interpret SDS-PAGE Western blotting to evaluate transgene expression in cell and tissue samples
- Utilize an automated capillary western blot (Protein Simple) to assess transgene expression and serum antibody detection
- Generate quantitative western blot data using compass software and excel
- Receive, process, and inventory samples received from collaborators
- Complete western analysis of pig cell and tissue lysates, including protein quantification, sample and buffer preparation, electrophoresis and blotting, as well as detection
- Maintain inventories of porcine tissue, plasma, and serum samples (both in freezers and digital databases)
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and handle biohazardous materials, including human or animal cells and tissues
- Assist with general lab maintenance, including cleaning, autoclaving biohazardous waste, preparing buffers, and ordering supplies
