      Role Summary
Keros Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our protein biochemistry group within our Research Department. Our group uses multidisciplinary approaches in protein sciences and protein engineering to better understand the biochemical, biophysical, and structural functional properties of TGF-β superfamily biomolecules that drive signaling. The role supports in vivo and in vitro studies by generating high-quality proteins and reagents, while producing and evaluating novel molecules and troubleshooting scientific challenges.
Responsibilities
- Design novel protein molecules and variants, leveraging computational and molecular biology approaches to optimize functional properties and binding characteristics.
- Support protein production efforts, including expression in mammalian systems, purification to high-quality reagents using FPLC, affinity, ion-exchange, and SEC chromatography, and ongoing optimization of production methods for novel biomolecules.
- Develop and optimize a comprehensive suite of protein characterization assays and techniques, including cell-based assays, SPR, BLI, SDS-PAGE, analytical SEC, and HPLC, to evaluate and select lead molecules.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all computational and experimental laboratory work in electronic lab notebooks and study reports.
- Communicate research findings through presentations and written reports at research meetings.
Qualifications
- Required: Demonstrated interest in protein sciences and/or computational biology.
- Required: Experience with structural biology and modeling techniques; familiarity with protein engineering principles and methodologies; knowledge of protein chemistry and protein-protein interactions.
- Required: Strong foundation in wet lab techniques, including basic lab etiquette, pipetting, and volumetric handling; ability to perform chemical stoichiometric calculations and prepare buffers accurately.
- Required: Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team and work independently with appropriate supervision.
- Preferred: Understanding the application of machine learning to protein engineering.
- Preferred: Experience in protein purification using multi-platform chromatography (e.g., affinity, ion-exchange, SEC); familiarity with biophysical methods for protein characterization.
- Preferred: Excellent communication and organization skills, detail-oriented, proficient in MS Office, data analysis, and slide presentation.
- Preferred: Mature, honest, trustworthy, and intellectually curious; views scientific problems as opportunities for innovation.
- Preferred: Previous co-op or internship experience in a relevant field.
Education
- Enrolled in a Master's program in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
